Elizabeth Escobedo
Elizabeth Escobedo is an associate professor of Latinx history, with a specialization in 20th century Mexican American history, at the University of Denver. She enjoys teaching a wide-range of topics in U.S. history, including modern America, the Latinx and Chicana/o/x experience, women and gender, and the history of race and ethnicity. Her award-winning book, From Coveralls to Zoot Suits: The Lives on Mexican American Women on the World War II Home Front, was published with University of North Carolina Press in 2013, and this research is featured in two PBS documentaries, “Zoot Suit Riots” and “Latino Americans.” Professor Escobedo is currently working with the National Cemetery Administration’s Veterans Legacy Program to engage DU students in exploring the lives and legacies of veterans buried at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. Her current book project is a relational history of Mexican American and Puerto Rican women in the World War II U.S. military.
